The Office

The Office is currently one of my favorite TV shows. With it's dry humor and interesting characters there are bound to be some excellent one-liners. Here are a few from my favorite episodes.

Michael: Today, I'm headed over to the job fair at Valley View High School to find some new interns, to get some fresh blood—um, euthanize this place.

(Discussing an accident where Michael hit an employee with his car)
Ryan: Did this happen on company property?
Michael: Yes. It was on company property, with company property, so double jeopardy. We are fine.
Ryan: I don't think you understand how jeopardy works.
Michael: Oh, right, I'm sorry. What is "we're fine"?

Michael: I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon- sue me- and since I don't have a butler, I have to do it myself. So most nights before I go to bed I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman Grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill. I go back to sleep again. Then I wake up to the smell of crackling bacon. It is delicious. It's good for me. It's the perfect way to start the day. Today I got up, I stepped onto the grill and it clamped down on my foot. That's it. I don't see what's so hard to believe about that!

Andy: I am a great interviewee. Why? Because I have something no one else has...my brain. Which I use to my advantage when advantageous.

Dwight: Welcome to the Hotel Hell. Check in time now. Check out time is never.
Jim: Does my room have cable?
Dwight: No, and the sheets are made of fire!
Jim: Can I change rooms?
Dwight: No, we're all booked up. Hell convention in town!
Jim: Can I have a late check out?
Dwight: I'll have to talk to the manager.
Jim: You're not the manager...even in your own fantasy?
Dwight: I'm the owner....the co-owner. With Satan!
Jim: Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.
Dwight: But I haven't told you my salary.
Jim: Go.
Dwight: Eighty thousand dollars a year!

(Michael in confessional)
Michael: It takes a big man to admit his mistake and that’s what I did. The important thing is I learned something. I don’t want somebody sucking up to me because they think I’m going to help their career. I want them sucking up to me because they genuinely love me. (smiles at the camera) Hmm.

It's time to play some Halo

To celebrate the end of finals and a challenging semester, I will be hosting an online Halo multi-player game and am inviting anyone and everyone to come and play. You don't even have to own the game. The Halo demo version has a multi-player game that can connect people online. Just download the demo here (it's about 130 MB so be prepared) and install it. Once you have the game open go into the multi-player menu and choose "Internet" under the "Join a Game" category. From there a list of games will appear. My game will appropriately be named "manblog" and the password to join will be "jason." Right now I'm planning on hosting the game at 7:30pm on Wednesday, but if a better time works for those who want to play, we can change it. Post a comment here if you plan on playing and if a better time would work and I'll coordinate it.

Get used to the controls by playing the demo level and then jump into a multi-player game and have some fun. Then come on Wednesday and see if you can beat me! You probably can but I'm sure there will be a couple of challenging people. Happy end of the semester!!

What's a ligre?

I'm sure that all of you Napoleon Dynamite fans remember this conversation between Napoleon and Deb.

Deb: What are you drawing?
Napoleon: A ligre.
Deb: What's a ligre?
Napoleon: It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.

Today we are here to find out if Napoleon really knows his hybrids. A ligre is in fact a combination of a lion and a tiger and it does in fact exist (see picture below), although for those of you seeking to improve you capacity for magic, I would not recommend buying one. A ligre is when a female lion mates with a male tiger (the female is always first).

Hybrids are formed when two species that are reproductively seperated pre-zygotically (geographic or behavioral isolation) but that , under the right circumstances, and form offspring. When the mood is right, you can end up with a Tigon, Yalkalo, Wolphin, Geep, Beefalo, or Zonkey, to name a few. When this occurs, some pretty interesting outcomes can occur. For some great hybrid pictures follow this link.

So the next time you are watching Napoleon Dynamite, remember hybrids and the amazing things that nature can produce when the circumstances are right.

The Colbert Report

One of the funniest political shows I've seen in years is The Colbert Report. It airs on Comedy Central Monday through Thursday. You can also view episodes on comedycentral.com. I've put on a couple of videos to give you an idea of what the show is like. Enjoy!

MP3 Fiesta!!!

I'll start off this post by saying that I've never really liked iTunes. I think the site is good for browsing or finding music but the format is a pain, especially if you don't own an iPod, and, for a college student, it is a little expensive. Hence, I was really happy when I found this new site called mp3fiesta.com. It is a site with a great selection of music and you can download songs for 10 cents and albums for a dollar! The sound quality is great and I've had only great things to say about it since I started using it. The songs are in mp3 format so you can add them to an iPod or any other mp3 player and they aren't protected so you can put them on multiple computers or mp3 players and listen to them without needing a password. I thought it was a good find and wanted to share the information with everyone else. Enjoy!

Moving in Slow Motion

Today sure feels like a Monday. It was a little harder to wake up and I've been moving a little slower than usual today. I felt like I was moving in slow motion...which is what spawned the idea of today's post. In a physics class a couple of semesters ago, our teacher showed us this website and used it to apply some basic concepts. I thought it was cool because it had slow motion videos like these:

a jello square being dropped...

A man being shot in the chest with a BB...

A water balloon exploding...

And my personal favorite, a man being slapped in the face.

You can see other videos like these by following this link. There is also another website I found that has color slow motion videos. You can check it out by clicking here. I hope everyone enjoys this and that it helps you move a little faster on the lethargic Monday.

Batman 2: The Dark Knight

Today I'd like to share a couple of awesome video clips for the new Batman movie, Dark Knight. It looks like it will be an amazing movie with a twisted villain. Here are the clips for your enjoyment. The first clip is the official two minute trailer which is pretty sweet. The second is a 6 minute clip of the movie that was shown with the IMAX version of I Am Legend. To see the 6 minute clip click here and then the play button on the new page.

Aside from the great action and special effects expected from this movie, I'm also looking forward to is the portrayal of the Joker. He's freaky looking and it seems like Heath Ledger really took the character to a whole new level. I can't wait to see this movie!
